Abersoch – July 2026
The Famous Five by the Sea

The reunion had been a long time coming. We hadn’t shared a campervan trip since Easter, and that felt far too long.

This time our destination was the beautiful seaside village of Abersoch, nestled on the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales. Once a quiet fishing village, Abersoch has become one of Wales’ most loved coastal destinations, known for its sheltered beaches, sailing waters and sweeping views across Cardigan Bay towards the mountains of Snowdonia. Despite its popularity, it still retains the relaxed charm that makes you immediately slow your pace.

Our campsite lay at the end of a maze of narrow, twisting single-track lanes, but any apprehension about the approach disappeared the moment we arrived. The view stretched across the sea all the way to Harlech, with the castle just visible in the distance on a clear day. Warm sunshine and a gentle breeze created the perfect setting for spending long hours outdoors, talking, laughing and simply enjoying each other’s company after far too many months apart.

Pepper was beside herself with excitement to have the whole pack back together again. Better still, we’d finally admitted defeat and packed an extra camping chair especially for her. She quickly claimed it as her own, surveying the campsite from her lofty throne with the quiet satisfaction of someone who knew she had been promoted.

The weekend unfolded at exactly the right pace.

We wandered along the beaches, browsed the shops in the village, and treated ourselves to a wonderful lunch at The Potted Lobster, where fresh local seafood and warm hospitality more than lived up to its reputation.

For once, my camera barely left the van.

Usually, I feel compelled to photograph every landscape and wildlife encounter, but this weekend reminded me that not every memory needs preserving through a lens. Sometimes the greatest gift is being completely present—sharing meals, conversations and laughter with friends, with the sea stretching quietly beyond and nowhere in particular to be.

The photographs may be few, but the memories are plentiful.

And perhaps that’s exactly as it should be.

I’m Sal, a writer drawn to the quiet magic of the natural world. My blog gathers the moments that shape a week: the first light over the hills, the call of winter birds, a walk that becomes a memory. I write about landscapes, seasons, travel, and the gentle threads that connect us to place.

Most of these moments are shared with Pepper, my ever-enthusiastic companion, who reminds me daily that even the simplest walk can hold a little wonder. Together, we explore the magic tucked inside an ordinary life — the kind you only notice when you slow down, look closely, and let the world reveal itself one small moment at a time.
